IES stands for Indian Engineering Services. The exam is conducted by UPSC every year. for IES exam there is no limit of number of attempts. you can apply any number of times for IES exam. So don't worry in this regard. IES exam is only conducted for the graduates from Engineering. for IES exam you need to have Engineering degree in any stream from recognized college or university. you can also apply for UPSC IES exam while studying in final year of Engineering.
for IES your age should be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 January of the year of the exam. There is also relaxation in upper age according to government norms vise 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

NO THERE IS NO RESTRICTIONS IN THE NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS FOR IES.
Indian Engineering Service,which is strictly for engineers does not have any limitations on number of attempt.
Any category,any tribe everybody have equal number of attempts which is-
THERE IS NO LIMIT FOR IES IN ATTEMPTS,UNLIMITED NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS FOR IES IRRESPECTIVE OF ANY CATEGORY.

Unlike IAS and IPS there is restriction in maximum number of attempts a candidate is allowed in IES examination.
This restriction is different for different casts. They are Given Below.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS IN IES:
CATEGORY NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS General 4 Other Backward Class 7 Scheduled Caste No restriction Scheduled Tribe No restriction Physically Handicapped 7
Age relaxation will be given to SC/ST/OBC only on showing a valid caste Certificate. Other wise they will be treated as general candidates.
A candidate can attempts for IES if his/her age is within the limit of IES Age limit.
AGE LIMIT FOR IES:
Generals- 21 to 30 years.
OBC- 21 to 33 years.
SC/ST- 21 to 35 years.
Physically Disables- 21 to 40 years.
SELECTION PROCESS IN IES:
-> Engineering Services Examination(ESE).
-> Interview.

There is no restriction in giving I.E.S exams based upon no of attempts.
But the other limitations are there based upon age and others, they are:-
>>Age limits;-
21-30 years for general category
21-33 years for obc category
21-35 years for SC/ST category

>>Indian natonality.

There are no any limits for giving the IES ( Indian Engineering Service ) exam , one can give it as much time as one are eligible for it.
But one should have to fulfill the below criteria for the IEs exam.
=> One must be B.E./B.Tech from any recognized university in any field.
=> A M.Sc student also eligible for the exam.
=> Age limit:21-30 for general cast , upper age relaxation fro reserved cast as per rules.
So any indian citizen who fulfill the above criteria are eligible for the exam.

unlike the IAS examination, in the indian engineering examination, there is no restriction in the number of attempts for giving the exam. You can appear in the examination as many times as you want to till you satisfy the age limit which is 21-30 years for the general category,
21-33 years for the obc category and 21-35 years for the sc/st category
