To become an IPS officer , the candidate need to clear the IPS exam which is held by UPSC once in a year.

Eligibility Required:
The candidate should be a citizen of India & a Graduate in any discipline to apply.He should be between the age of 21 to 30 year but the upper age is relaxed by 3 year for OBC , 5 year for SC/ST & certain other categories.

Physical Requirement:
Height Male - 165 cm & ST male (not SC) - 160 cm
Height Female - 150 cm & ST - 145 cm

chest - Male minimum 84 cm (expansion 5 cm)
Female 79 cm (expansion 5 cm)

Eye sight 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye.

High Standards for the color blind test. No inherent night blindness and vision should be stereoscopic

Blood Pressure : Depends on age as - 123 for 23 years of age, 124 for 24 year old candidate, should be 122 at 25 years of age and 28 year age requires 124 and follows different according to age

Ear Capacity : Good listening and normal ear cavity. 1000 to 4000 frequency hearing impairment should not be more than 30 decibels

Nasal - Aspirant should not stutter while speaking/ talking etc.

Female Candidates : Ladies should not be pregnant while physical and medical test

Selection process is same that is for Indian civil service examination as - Preliminary examination then main examination and personality test by passing in each stage is compulsory including physical and medical standards test

IPS is one of the top posts of INDIA. for IPS you have to write Civil Services exam. that is conducted by UPSC. IN IPS almost every year 3,50,000 candidates appear for exam and at the end only almost 200 candidates are appointed as IPS officer.

for Civil Services exam you need graduation degree fro recognized college or university.
your age must be within 21 years to 30 years. there is relaxation in upper limit upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

before apply for Civil Services you need to check your physical standards. because it might leads to disqualification at the time of Physical and Medical Examination.

IPS Exam stands for Indian Police Service [IPS]. The exam is conducted by Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) to select candidates for the All India Services and for the services coming under the Group A and Group B of the Central Government.

Physical qualification for IPS :-


Height: The male candidate should be 165cm and female candidate should be 150cm for general category candidates. In the case of candidates coming under SC/ST/OBC the height required is 160cm for male and 145cm for female.


Chest: Minimum requirement in the case of male candidates is 84cm and they should be able to expand the chest for 5cm. In the case of female candidates the minimum requirement is 79cm and they should be able to expand the chest for 5cm.


Eye sight: 6/12 or 6/9 distant vision for worse eye and 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye. Near vision for worse eye is J2 and for good eye is J1.
