IAS stands for Indian Administrative service which is conducted by UPSC.
As you know that IAS exam consist;-
Preliminary exam(CSAT)
Mains exam
Personality test
IAS Mains exam consist these papers;-
Paper 1-Essay of 200 marks and English compression-100 marks
General studies I-250 marks
General studies II-250 MARKS
General studies III-250 marks
At last your choosing optional subject papers of 250 marks each.
You must be choose those optional subject in which you have full interest or field related subject.

Indian Administrative Services (IAS) examination is conduct by UPSC once every year.
There are 3 stages in IAS examination process which student need to clear in order to become IAS officer.
� Preliminary Examination
� Main Examination
� Interview
The student/candidate can attempt main examination only after he/she is qualified Preliminary Examination.
This examination is of Descriptive in nature.
Pattern of the Main Examination
The written examination will consist of the following papers:
Compulsory
Paper I One of the Indian Languages* 300 marks
Paper II English 300 marks
Papers I and II are of a qualifying nature only. The marks obtained in
them will not count for ranking purposes.
Paper III Essay 200 marks
Papers IV & V General Studies - (Papers I & II) 300 marks each
Optional Subjects - (2 Subjects)
Papers VI & VII Optional I (Papers I & II) 300 marks each
Papers VIII & IX Optional II (Papers I & II) 300 marks each
Grand Total (Papers III to IX) 2000 marks4
Note:
i. The aim of Papers I and II is to test the candidate�s ability to read
and understand serious discursive prose and to express his/her ideas
clearly and correctly in English/the Indian language concerned. These
papers will be of the Matriculation level and of qualifying nature; the
marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking.
