Yes Dear, The preliminary exam for the Punjab civil service. All process is same like as the civil service exam-upsc. The preliminary exam date for the Punjab civil service exam is the 25th November 2012, Two papers is held one is the general studies and other is general ability. You must know that there is no PCS exams which does not have any prelims examination means All Indian State's Public Service Commissions exams have a pattern in which three steps are there which are following :
1. Preliminary Exam - Objective Type Pattern
2. Mains Exam - Descriptive or Subjective Type Pattern
3. Interview Process - Conducted by PSC Board of the state
All three steps are necessary to qualify to join the PCSs services in the Indian State and you will have to qualify the prelims then you would be declared as eligible to appear for next round exams means for mains exams and fortunately if you qualify both exams then you would be able to face an interview process which will be the last step between you and government public services in India so prepare hard for the exam.
If you have completed your graduation with at least 50% marks from a recognized university and your age is between 21-30 years then you can apply for PPSC Prelims exam.

the civil services examination of all the states are held by the same pattern and as same as upsc civil services examination .
It means it also consist three steps which are
1. Prelims examination.
2. Mains examination .
3. Personal interview..

examination. So you should not to get worry and concentrate on your preparation for the examination.
Yes the age criteria and no of attempts may be different for different states ,
but the pattern of the examination is same as the upsc civil services examination .

Like Civil services from the UPSC, the punjab civil services also has the preliminary examination. Infact every states follow the same procedure and same type of examination as of UPSC. Preliminary examination will be an objective type exam which has multiple choice question. You must note that it has a negative marking of 1/3 for every wrong answer. Yes,Punjob civil services are having prelims exam
The exam will be conducted in three phases which includes Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Interview.
The preliminary competitive examination will consist of two papers i.e. Paper I General Studies and Paper II Civil Services Aptitude Test. Both the papers will be of 2 hours duration and shall have 150 questions carrying one mark each . There will be no negative marking.
The Preliminary Examination is only a screening test for selecting candidates who would be eligible to take the Main Examination and the marks obtained in this Examination shall not be counted towards the merit of the candidates.

Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) will hold a Punjab State Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination for recruitment to various post. The exam will be conducted in three phases which includes Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Interview.
Preliminary Examination : It consist of two paper

II. Civil Services Aptitude
A candidate who qualify the Preliminary test will eligible for Mains Examination.
The marks obtained in this examination shall not be counted towards the merit of the candidate.
