Any candidate who have done graduation in engineering from recognized university in any stream is eligible for the exam.
And for its preparation you dont need to worry what all is taken in test you just start your preparation and if you want to crack the exam you can go for it.....
If you really do your prepartion then it will not be difficult to write the exam..
YES, its almost difficult for you regarding your field because for this exam questions or papers based on that four branches which you mention your questions.as per my advice you have to apply for UPSC IAS exam.
Hello,
If you have done Engineering in computer science, then only you can appear in the exam. If you are not an engineer, then you can not appear.
If the former is the case, then it is fact that you will find this exam a tough nut to crack as you will have to study a full engineering course for this exam. Also, the syllabus of allowed engineering stream does not match much with computer engineering. So, it is going to be a difficult task naturally.
I would recommend you to first chalk out what you want from this exam. If you are looking only for a government job, then I think it is not worth trying this hard to get just a govt job. You can get a decent job in software industry. If you want to serve your nation, then also you can try for other govt jobs like civil services at central and state level. You will find them a little bit easier than trying for an IES job. But preparation for civil services will look tough as there is a huge competition there.
So, you have to first set your priorities right.
Thanks,
goyalk
Dear Friend
This a very common confusion among large no of candidates from the streams other than core branches of engineering that whether I am eligible or not for the IES exams.
Do not worry ,candidates from any branch/discipline/trade are eligible to apply for the examinations.
So being a computer science graduate you are also eligible for this examinations.
Note: Yes ,you are right you have to select subjects from the core branches of engineering for the conventional papers of IES exams.Friend honestly speaking yes it will be a little bit tough for a computer science engineer to read the subjects of electrical, mechanical, civil and electronics.
However if you have courage and strong determination to crack the IES exam then no one can stop you from achieving your goal and friend nothing is impossible in this world.
So without any hesitation, start your preparation right now.
Examination pattern:
You will have four attempts if you are from general category and seven for obc and no limits for sc/st .
The age limit is 21-30 years for the general category.

Hello
Yes ,you are absolutely correct that you will have problems while writing the exam as the subjects are only related to the mechanical, electrical, civil, electronics.
To tell you the truth it is a bloody kind of a joke.the country have in reality no system and nothing. They are asking every engineering graduate to apply for the IES exam and that too under only 4 streams.
In real the government of India does not have many services to provide for all types of streams in engineering, they have services related to mechanical, electrical, electronics, civil and no else.Just as a consolation they write the eligibility criteria for the IES is for all the engineers.
The basic fact is that as a engineer graduate you are eligible, the criteria says the same, but it is very much true that you will have to study al total different subjects, the four year course of yours in the engineering degree is of no use.
