Why IT/CS branches are not included in Indian Engineering Services exams of UPSC?

In UPSC's IES exams, there are exams for only four branches(Electrical,Civil, mechanical and Electronics & Telecommunications). But the Branches like Information Technology & Computer Science,Automobiles Engg. etc are not included. These are also very imp. fields of Engg., there should be exams for these also.If it is not so then why from the last four years or more these branches are not taken into above mentioned exams? By the way,I'm a student from Inform. Tech. field.

IT and CS have got into prominence only very recently. Further where will IT and CS engineers get employed, in which sector?
civil engineers are employed in PWD dept.
Mechanical engineers also in PWD, and some other PSUs in manufacturing sector.
EEE and ECE in PSUs such as BEL, BHEL etc.
If at all they recruit IT&CS they can be only appointed for system maintenance only. For system maintenance, an engineer is not necessary, a diploma can do it.
When e-governance grows in the country, then there will be a lot of scope for IT and cs engineers to solve issues i online delivery, server maintenance etc

Re: Why IT/CS branches are not included in Indian Engineering Services exams of UPSC?

For CS & IT students the suitable sector is Software.
They can also apply for govt jobs & UPSC but they will not find their suitable field to work.

If selected they will be assigned to either mechanical dept or electrical or communication dept
Which is actually opposite to the field they are familiar with.

This is the reason why IT & CS branches are not included in IES of UPSC as there are no software sector available in govt depts.
You'll find various opportunities outside govt sector as most of the highlighted companies are software.

But if you are so desperate to apply for UPSC then there are some exams which you can apply irrespective of your branches.

    List of exams:

    Central Police Forces Examination (CPF)
    Civil Services Examination
    Combined Defense Services Examination (CDS)

Its because the government of india takes IT and software for granted. I am working very closely with the government department and for then having a software engineering degree is only useful to create some static HTML websites.

The mindset of the whole system is very narrow and it is unlikely to change in the future too.

But you can choose among the streams after you clear it and they are:

    1.Mechanical
    2.Electrical
    3.Civil
    4.Electronics.

Because they branches are not eligible for this.
Indian gov. never need a programmer and any kind of computer repair post.
They do it with private sec.
Also they haven't content a subject for whole four year.
    So that's why .
I hope it will helpful for you.

Re: Why IT/CS branches are not included in Indian Engineering Services exams of UPSC?

Dear you are absolutely right about this and i agree with you that UPSC board did not include any other branches than - Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication & Mechanical in Indian Engineering Service Examination

But we may not do anything related to this because this decision is taken by the UPSC board which is a Constitutional Body in our India and working under central government so that the decision is taken by the Indian Government and if you will try to raise your voice then also you may not do anything

Anyone of use does not know that what is the accurate reason behind this but we may say that these above mentioned 4 branches are the major branches of Engineering and all other branches are minor and under lower grade than all of these four that is why the UPSC board preferred these branches but you should not worry because you may also apply for other following exams under UPSC board

UPSC Combined Defense Service - Indian Military, Navy and Air Force

    UPSC Indian Forest Service

    UPSC Indian Civil Service

UPSC Central Police Force - Assistant Commandant

    All the best

    Hello

    IES-Indian Engineering services

Criteria -All branches are eligible to apply in IES.
Engineering degree from any stream is applicable.

But they will have to apply under four branches as mentioned above.
The exam will be only of those four branches syllabus.

But all branches stream are eligible.
Like question papers are of two type

Objective-question will be set for four branches like civil engineering objective, mechanical engineering objective, electrical engineering objective.
conventional type-civil conventional type, electronics and communication conventional type, electrical engineering conventional type.

Indian government does not have services to offer for other branches, that is the reason,of such situation.
India still does not have any scope to produce such jobs in software filed, automobile filed to offer jobs for computer science, automobile, production engineers jobs.

Re: Why IT/CS branches are not included in Indian Engineering Services exams of UPSC?

    Dear friend,
IT/CS are not included in Indian Engineering Services examination held by UPSC because these services are offered to engineering candidates in CORE sector of due country which is solely under Public Sector and not privatized. The core engineering sector includes only 4 conventional branches of engineering which are very old with reference to time of their origin. These branches are
    >Electrical Engineering
    >Mechanical Engineering
    >Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
    >Civil Engineering

Since CS and IT branches are very new and their existence came to life in recent times,so there is very small requirement of the engineers of these branches in the existing engineering Public sectors. That's why these branches are not included in IES.But maybe in coming future when entire engineering will be computerized then maybe UPSC include CS/IT in IES examination.

Thank you and all the best

    Dear aspirant...

The following are the branches for the services in Indian Govt. Services;-

    Civil Engineering

    Mechanical Engineering

    Electrical Engineering

    Electronics and Tele communication Engineering

Presently there is no much scope of IT/CS engneers in the Govt, services.

Once e-governance will come into picture there will be demand for them also.

    Wait and watch............

Wishing you the best of luck.
