Age relaxation;---
3 years age relaxation for OBC category

Dear,
There is only 04 attempts for General candidates, 07 attempts for OBC candidates and up to the age of 35 year for SC/ST candidates to appear the examination. So If you are a general category candidate, then you can't appear the examination. To me, The age limit is justifiable for the examination. But the number of attempts should be abolished or increased for General Candidates. All the Best............... Thanks....
Number of attempts allowed for UPSC civil service examination according to the official norms of UPSC board
>> Every candidate appearing at the examination who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted four attempts at the examination
>> Provided that this restriction on the number of attempts will not be apply in the case of SCs and STs who are otherwise eligible
>> Provided further that the number of attempts permissible to candidates belonging to OBC who are otherwise eligible shall be seven. The relaxation will be available to the candidates who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates
>> Provided further that a physically handicapped as many attempts as are available to other non-physically handicapped of his or her community subject to the condition that a physically handicapped candidate, belonging to the general category shall be eligible to seven attempts. The relaxation will be available to the physically handicapped candidates who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates
>> SC and ST category candidates will also be permitted to use all attempts of the examination available for this examination but they are also restricted after completing 35 years of age
>> If a candidate actually appears in the one paper in the preliminary examination, he/she shall be deemed to have made an attempt at the examination
Dear this is the actual information given by UPSC board in the official recruitment notification and you can understand everything that how many attempts are allowed to appear for this examination
If you think that number of attempts and age limitation should be increased so I would like to say that UPSC board working under central government of India and they are right at their way because they have complete knowledge about everything of this examination and whatever they will concern, that will be good for the examination and for all candidates and whatever they have decided for age limitation and number of attempts is good according to them and I will say this is absolutely right for all aspirants and you also can see that they did not give 1 or 2 attempts, they give 4 attempts every time means candidate must have enough chance to qualify this examination and they are also right in case of SC/ST, OBC and PWD candidates because they have lack of facilities and enough sources to study for this examination and most of the candidates belongs to rural area where no facility available to study for IAS examination
Age limit is minimum 21 years and maximum 30 years to apply for this exam and this is completely right at it's place because this is the right age of the candidate to get selected for IAS officer post and when you have four attempts and can apply till 30 years of age then what more you want from the government means if you could not qualify exam after using all attempts and age limitations then there is a fault in yourself or you did not study concentratively and prepare well for examination so think about this and be concentrate about your career
As for as my views are concerned that there should not be any type of increment in the number of attempts and age limit for any category candidates means current criteria is well and it should be same in future too
I have attached complete official notification that provides complete information about this exam please download
All the best
no it is not in upsc criteria. if you belong from than you attempt only 4 time . other wise no chance for you. if you belong from obc than you attempt 7 time .

Good Luck....
if you belong to general category then you had only 4 attempts for upsc civil services
you can't apply any more to civil services.
but
if you belong to obc or sc/st category then you have more attempts
as obc:7 attempt
sc/st : no limit to there attempts i. e. you can apply for as many times as you want under your age limit.
age limit and number of attempts according to categories are listed:
1. general: 21 - 30 years,
attempt : 4
2. OBC: 21 - 33 years
attempt: 7
3. SC/ST :21- 35 years
attempt : no limit.
hello dear,
well in U.P.S.C civil services exam there are 4 attempts for general category.
7 attempts for other backward classes
unlimited attempts for scheduled castes and tribes
as for my opinion for increasing the number of attempts in civil services
I SAY NO
reason behind that if in 4 attempts you couldn't then you couldn't
i know there is some sort of NEVER GIVE UP attitude is there
but because of that there would be many applicants thus making the exam unmanageable.
happy to help you..
