hi,
Acronym IAS stands Indian Administration Services. For The post of IAS you have to write Civil Services exam which is conducted by UPSC. IAS is one of the prestigious post. and IAS officer gets lots of facilities and they have direct contacts with top Ministers.
ARTS streams is considered best for Civil Services point of view. because ARTS subjects like History, Geography and Political Science will really helpful in cracking the Civil Services exam. with this you can also take Mathematics subject.
for Civil Services exam you need to complete or appearing in final year of graduation in any stream with any percentage. also your age will be within 21 years to 30 years and there is relaxation upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST in upper age limit.
there are also limit of number of attempts. there are 4 attempts for general category, 7 attempts for OBC and there is no limit in number of attempts for SC/ST candidates.

Dear Aspirant
See new pattern of examination has given student from any field has something to gain or some they have to prepare himself as they might have not studied in graduation .So taking an arts stream will help you.But you should select it yourself don't take subjects on someone's views that select as it is scoring or this one as it is less scoring. That subject was scoring as that student has interest in that particular subject.Believe me it is the interest factor that will help you to perform extraordinarily than any other. So first thing go to the official websites of UPSC(www.upsc.gov.in) and choose from the 25 optional paper.Because there are so many paper from arts stream. If possible download question paper but sincerely select your optional paper and then take that subject as your main paper in graduation in arts stream.
All the best
