It is not sure that chemistry a scoring optional in UPSC main exam. but I think GK and english is the best optional scoring subject in the UPSC main exam.
so that you have to prepare all subject but only two subject are the scoring option in the UPSC exam.

UPSC exams are one of the toughest exams. Success in UPSC Civil Services Mains exam is totally depends upon the optional subjects. and care must be taken before choosing the optional Subjects for mains exam.
You must choose only does subjects in which you are comfortable and you have knowledge of these subjects.

yes chemistry may be good optional subject for the mains exam if you have good knowledge of subject.
So work hard for the prepation of chemistry subject. You can choose other optional subject as per your desire like History, Geography.
choose the optional subjec very carefully . it has 1200 marks in mains exam
Of-course Dear, Chemistry is scoring subject for UPSC Mains, because if you answered right than you will got full marks but if you answere wrong it will be Zero. Its also good to prepare for Chemistry than other subjects. Its as same as maths subject...if its answer is right than you get full otherwise it is zero...

We can't estimate scoring subjects in UPSC mains examinations.
The selection of subject and working hard to achieve success depends on you.
If you studied Chemistry as optional stream then better to give option as Chemistry as one of the option.
If you do not interested/idea regarding subject then do not take chemistry as optional subject.

It depends on you i.e if you are quite good at chemistry then you can score good in it .But if you are not enough good then you can choose any other subjects like public administration or political science......
You can choose any subject for the optionals it depends on your comfortable level..
