    dear friend,

    Yes, you can choose Chemistry and Electrical Engineering as optional subjects in UPSC mains Exam. you can choose any two optional subjects and it does not matter that you have studied these subjects in your academic carrier or not.
    for preparation try to solve previous year papers of these subjects.

    you can download papers from following link:

    Good Luck.......

    Dear friend,

    yes you can choose. these two combinations are allowed in upsc.

    if you are interested and comfortable with these two subjects then you can surely go for these.

    Following combinations of subjects ARE NOT ALLOWED IN Civil services exam:

    (a) Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration;
    (b) Commerce & Accountancy and Management;
    (c) Anthropology and Sociology;
    (d) Mathematics and Statistics;
    (e) Agriculture and Animal Husbandry &Veterinary Science.
    (f) Management and Public Administration;
    (g) Of the Engineering subjects, viz., Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineeringnot more than one subject.
    (h) Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science.

    If you have interest in those 2 subjects, then definitely you can go with it. But there are certain difficulties, which i can emulate.
    1) lack of proper expert guidance, self-preparation is the only way
    2) very few members within 100 will attempt that optional, so you have to be among the top 20 to get selected
    Examine yourself and take a decision. ALL THE BEST
