usually special class railway apprentice exam is conducted by UPSC, in the month of July
the exam for 2012 is already over and the next exam will be conducted on 20/01/2013

notification for this exam is expected to be released on 13/10/2012 and you will have 1 month time frame to apply for the exam. The application link will be disabled on 12/11/2012.
THese are tentative dates and are bound to be changed by UPSC any time. So kindly refer upsc.gov.in website for any updates.
This exam consists of following papers
1) Genera ability
2) Physical sciences
3) Mathematics
Each paper has 2 hours duration and a maximum of 200 marks is alloted for each paper.

the notifications would be released in the month of OCTOBER
and the forms can be filled up in the month of NOVEMBER
however the tentetive date is last sunday of JANUARY
