no the pattern and syllabus for civil services exam is completely different from engineering services exam.
civil services exam pattern:
1) Preliminary exam - multiple choice type- 2 papers
- general studies
- CSAT
2) Mains exam- Written or essay type - 9 papers
Candidates have to choose 2 optional subjects from the list available. Each option has papers and rest of the papers are compulsory.
3) Interview/ Personality test
Engineering services exam:
candidates have to choose any one stream among Civil, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical
1) written exam
It has 2 sections - one objective type and the other conventional essay type
Section 1:
2 papers on general ability
2 papers on the respective stream (civil, Mechanical, ECE, EEE)
Section 2:
2 conventional papers on respective stream

Dear,
In the civil service exam firstly preliminary exam is taken by the upsc. Under preliminary exam two papers held both of them is the general study. After that preliminary exam
the mains held under this eight paper is held with the two optional subjects. Then interview held by the upsc.
In ESE exam the no preliminary and the mains exam, only one time the exam is held and then took interview through upsc board.
Civil service requirement is long process than the ESE exam.
