    Dear Aspirant

GATE(Graduate Aptitude Test For Engineering )is conducted by one of the IIT every year for admission in higher course studies like M.Tech.However you may also get admission in public sectors where as IES Indian Engineering Services is one of the most prestigious examination conducted by UPSC for engineering graduate through this you may get services in Railways,Defence in techncal areas. There is one more thing GATE is happen only objective.Question paper pattern is objective in GATE where as in IES question paper pattern is objective as well as subjective .For IES you can give only papers like Civil Engineering,Electrical Engineering,Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

So it is not essential that you prepare for IES as well if your aim is solely of doing higher studies like M.Tech Then you need to think it also. All the best

    Dear Aspirant
One thing I must clear here that IES and GATE is of different category papers
and also conducted by different officials..
First of all Gate is conducted by IIT To be admission in M.TECH,appearing in this
help in some governments exams.but not in IES exam
Second IES helps engineers to get Jobs in engineering sectors..
    IES is conducted by UPSC....
so prepare for GATE for admission in MTECH ,but not for IES.
    All The Best
