dear according to me if you focus only one exam then offcourse you can clear that one exam but if you take both exam for your target so you will be confused so firstly maintain only one exam which is best for your future.

the exams IES & GATE are related to engineering so prparation for that you must read your books of graduation because the questions are asks mostly on that fundamentals in both exams.so that both exam's preparation is covered simultaneously.
