For becoming geologists in future you have to clear the Geologists exam whioch is organised by UPSC every year.
The examination is conducted for two posts:
1.Category I: post in geological survey of India.
2.Category II: post in central ground water board.
Basic requirements for the examination:
Age limitations:
>>21-32 years on the 1st january of the year of examination.
Educational qualification:
>>Master's degree in Geology/applied geology/marine geology from a recognised university.
>>Those who have completed his master's degree in some other trades like:
1.Hydrogeology
2.mineral exploitation are also eligible.
Tentative schedule for Examination:
notification: June
conduction of exam: November.

All papers are of essay type
After clearing the exam you will get following posts
1) Geologist group 'A' in Geological survey of India
2) junior hydrologists(scientist B) group 'A'
or Assistant hydrologists Group 'B' in central ground water board

Educational Qualification:
- Master�s degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology; or
- Master�s degree in Mineral Exploration (for posts in Geological Survey of India only), or
- Master�s degree in Hydrogeology (for posts in central ground water board only) from a recognized university;
- Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
Age Criteria: A candidate age should be below 32 years as on mentioned date in Advt.

to become a Geologist through UPSC exams you have to give Geologist Exam conducted by UPSC. After clearing the exam you can get the post in Geological Survey of India.
Eligibility Criteria for Geologist post:
1. You have to complete Master's degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management .
2. you must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1 January of the year of exam.
and there is relaxation in upper age limit: 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

Well mine friend, for guys like you UPSC conducts a special examination named Geologist examination.
SInce you are interested in it, so i will describe it so that it helps you
First of all, i will clear you that Examination will be conducted on 1st December 2012,Saturday.
This time they are conducting this examination for two categories :
>> Category I (for Geological Survery of India)
>> Category II (for Central Ground Water Board)
Eligibility for Applying for Geologist examination :
>> You must hold master's degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology.
>> You must be Indian Citizen to attempt the exam.
Last date for receipt of applications either by hand or by post/speed post or by courier will be September 24, 2012.
