Hi Aspirant,
Yes friend, you can do the preparation of civil service without taking coaching classes, but you need to work very hard for the preparation.
You should have clear all the topics.
Friend you can also join the coaching institute for a short while to get proper direction and clear doubt.
This will be much helpful for you. As you know Civil service exam is the toughest exam of India.
Civil service exam is conducted for the most reputed job of India like IAS, IPS or IRS.
So you have just need of very hard work of the preparation.
First I mention the syllabus of Civil service exam
In preliminary exam you will have to do the study of GS, Quantitative aptitude and verbal or non-verbal reasoning.
So for the preparation of GS section you should read newspaper daily and listen news and makes notes of them.
You can also gather the data of GS from competitive magazine like pratiyogita darpan.
In mains exam you will have to choose two optional subject and there is 9 paper in mains exam including essay paper.
For the preparation of essay you should do writing practice and enhance your writing skill.
Study with reference books and go through deep study.
Practice previous year model question paper to know exam pattern.

Best of Luck
If you dont join a class
#1: dont feel guilty
#2: Self control
#3: Company
These points are well explained below.
If you dont join a class
That is- youre doing self preparation.
#1: dont feel guilty#2: Self control
- First of all, throw away any doubt, guilt or inferiority complex that you have e.g.Im not going to Delhi so my success chances are less.
- Dont think in that manner. please avoid company of people whore thinking in that manner. Because negative vibes are infectious. It creates demotivation and affects your studies.
- And once youve decided, then dont doubt your decision or caliber.
- Success is very much possible, without coaching.
#3: Company
- If you goto gym, you see other people are doing more exercise, and got better body than yours. It automatically motivates you to do exercise further.
- But if youre at home, it is easy to lose track, and become complacent about preparation e.g. koi nai, thik hai, there are still many months left before the exam, Ill manage
- Sorry you cant manage. Weeks and months will pass like this and just 30 days before the exam, youll realize that you havent really prepared much throughout the year. Then you start looking for shortcuts i.e. readymade current affairs material etc. = #epicfail.
- Dont let your mood dictate your studies. Spend majority of your day with books, magazines and newspapers only. (if youre not a working professional).
- Make a few friends from the field, either in real life or on internet. Peer pressure helps in keeping the tempo and motivation for studies.
- More time Management tips are given separately in the later part of this article.
I hope the coaching doubt is clear.
Dear Aspirant
Preparing for civil service exam requires true dedication, motivating yourself. You can do anything if you seek proper guidance.Proper guidance doesnot means u need to join coaching class. You should plan systematically yourself
1)GO to official websites of upsc(www.upsc.gov.in)
2)Download previous years question paper (IAS)
3)Analyze the pattern of exam(Duration of exam,Number of question papers asked subjective or conventional)
you should do these things yourself .It will take time but it will gradually increase interest in your preparation.
Next phase
Start Preparing for prelims first(I can tell what it consists but then it will presenting ready-made coaching material) and then read one newspaper daily preferably 'The Hindu '(for current affairs)
IAS examine is designed that average but studious student can easily break it.
True dedication and motivating yourself will pay.Coaching will provide you only ready-made materials.Ultimately its your zeal and hard-work will pay.|
Why to waste time in coaching instead allot those hours of study by yourself to your subject interest
4)Identify any paper of your interest from optional list given in UPSC .Start preparing for it .
There are many things .You should plan gradually .Accomplshing task one by one.Generate your interest then action to accomplish it.All the bestDear Aspirant
