First of all you should know that Indian Air Force is a part of defense department and ministry of India so if you think that you should get the job in defense related to your mechanical work then you may be wrong but sometimes may be right because there are so many work and job profile decided for the fresh cadets and you may get any one of them because there is no fix criteria that if you qualify any examination of Indian Air Force as - CDS or AFCAT etc. then you will directly get mechanical related branch, you may be posted as the soldier of Indian Air Force and department may be give you responsibility to be with the Air Force army so there is no such type of criteria and you should remember that but if you through AFCAT then there will be three different branches that are - Flying Branch, Mechanical Branch and Ground Duty Branch and you will get the job according to the preferred branch on selected position so I would like to suggest you to that if you want related work to your mechanical stream in Air Force Department then you will have to go through AFCAT Entrance Examination and Details are following for this stream :
Eligibility for AFCAT - Technical Branch for Men 2013 :
I - Aeronautical Engineer ( Mechanical ) : Candidates applying for AE (M) Branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or should have passed sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of institution of engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies
>> Candidate should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and studied at least 8 subjects out of the eighteen subjects listed below in their qualifying exam :
M1 - Physics/ Engineering Physics, M2 - Engineering Maths/ Mathematics, M3 - Graphics/ Engineering Drawing, M4 - Automative Engineering/ Plant Engineering/ Industrial Engineering, M5 - Engineering Mechanics/ Strength of Material, M6 - Aerodynamics, M7 - Thermodynamics and Applications/ Head Power Engineering, M8 - Heat and Mass Transfer, M9 - Theory of Mechanics (Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery), M10 - Fluid Mechanics / Turbo Mechanics, M11 - Flight Mechanics, M12 - Machine Drawing/ Machine Design, M13 - Mechatronics, M14 - Material Science/ Metallurgy, M15 - Vibrations, M16 - Work Technology/ Manufacturing Technology/ Production Engineering, M17 - Hydraulics and Pneumatics, M18 - Aircraft Structures
Physical Standards : Height should be minimum 157.5 Cms with correlated weight
All other tests related to physical and medical standards will be evaluated by the Air Force Medical Authorities whose decision on the fitness would be final
You can also apply for Flying branch on the basis of your bachelor's degree but preferring and joining Technical Branch of Air Force will be better than other branches because you are enough interested in that so you will definitely perform you duty with full of efforts
Age limitations are also followed by the Air Force as per government guidelines that are - minimum age 18 but should not have attained 28 years of age
