You have also taken all the pros and cons and futures perspectives in this regard. For CDS Examination, candidate is required:# Indian National# Any bachelor degree holder# Unmarried# Either sex, that is, male or female# 19-22 years of age for Navy# 19-23 years of age for Airforce# 19-25 years of age for Army# Must have high degree of physical fitness level
Dear Harish ,
Nice to hear that you are very much interested in the Combined Defense Services Exam after missing the NDA Exam.
First of all i just provide you a brief information about the exam. The Combined Defense Services Exam is conducted every year two times by the Union Public Service Commission.
These two exams are known under the names of CDS-I & CDS-II and are conducted in the months of February and September respectively.
The UPSC Conducts mainly two exams every year for the selection of candidates in Indian Defense :
1) NDA & NA Examination
2) Combined Defense Services Examination
Since , you cannot apply for the NDA Exam at present , so the only choice for you is the CDS Exam.
The Eligibility Criteria Required for CDS Exam are :
* You must have completed graduation in any stream with Maths as one of the subjects from any recognized college/university.
* Candidates in final year of graduation can also appear for the CDS Exam but their eligibility is limited only to CDS-II Exam.
* The Age Limit :
a) For Naval Academy : 19-22 yrs
b) For Air Force Academy : 19-23 yrs
c) For Indian Military Academy : 19-24 yrs
d) For Officer`s Training Academy : 19-25 yrs
* The candidate must be :
- A citizen of India.OR,
- A subject of Nepal. OR,
- A subject of Bhutan.
* Both Male and Female candidates are eligible for the exam.
* The candidate must have good mental and physical status.
Now coming back to your query ,i opine that candidates having a B.Tech Degree are considered more better than those having simple Graduation degree.
This is because in B.Tech , whatever stream you choose , Maths remain as one of the subjects which is quite necessary for the CDS Exam whereas in simple graduation its not the same.
Also , Candidates pursuing B.Tech degree are more concentrated towards Study in comparison to those who are simply pursuing graduation.
But at last , its totally your decision that what you like and in which way you want to prepare for the exam.
This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.
CDS stands for the Combined Defense Service exam.
UPSC conducts the CDS exam for the recruitment in defense service.
To apply for the Combined Defense Service exam You should be graduated in any stream from recognized university or its equivalent.
You must have math and physics as compulsory subject in order to join naval and air force academy.
You can also apply in final year of graduation.
You must be in age of 19 to 25 years.
You must be the Indian.
So friend you can do any degree program or engineering to join the defense service.

Dear if you have crossed 19 years of age then you are not eligible to apply for NDA examination but you can apply for CDS examination but you do not have enough educational qualification for this exam so that I would like to suggest you that if you want to go for defense sector then you should not choose B.Tech because this is a four years of bachelor's degree which will take a long time to be completed and because of your this degree, you will loose this chance also that is why use your mind and go for any three years of bachelor's degree then complete and apply for CDS examination and eligibility criteria is following for CDS examination
Indian Military Academy : Must posses a bachelor's degree or pursuing final year in any discipline and age should be between 19-24 years for this section
Indian Naval Academy : Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering in any discipline and age should not be less than 19 years and more than 22 years
Indian Air Force : Must have completed bachelor's degree with mathematics and physics as a compulsory subject in degree and age should not be less than 19 years and more than 23 years to apply
Now you can see that there is no more age limit left for you and you need to focus on your preparation and get into defense sector job through CDS examination and give at least 8 hours everyday only for preparation
All the best

i think any conventional course like b.sc,b.a is better for cds since they are 3 years degree programmes while b.tech is 4 year degree programme... doing conventional degree would save your one year.
all the best
happy learning!!!
