How to manage time and syllabus for IAS exam while pursuing B.Tech without coaching?

    Hi Folks,

I am a Btech 3rd yr student. I had decided to prepare for IAS on my own. But I am having difficulty in managing time. The most I can devote is 3 hrs a day. Would that be sufficient as I am having 2yrs for preparation being an undergraduate.
Also how should i head my preparation. Both MAINS nd PRELIMS together or 1 at a time.
I am having no optional subject common with the coarse list. Is that a worry?

    Please Help.

f you like to go for the civil services examination and that you want to qualify without coaching then you need to do it sincerely because very less candidates who not take the coaching qualify the IAS examination.
So first thing you need to do is to make the habit to read the HIndu newspaper daily as this is the best english newspaper to prepare for the IAS examination.
In this newspaper each and every thing is given as per the syllabus of the civil services examination.
So the first stage you need to qualify as it is the CSAT civil services common aptitude test.
If you qualify this then you can choose the optional subjects on the later stages that is MAiNS examination..
In CSAt there are 2 papers and both the paper will be related to the general studies so if you have read the socila studies well in class 10th then it will be easier for you qualify the examination.
After CSAT there will be the MAINS exam that you need to take very much higher time for the preperation because into the same you need to take an optional subject.
Try to give almost 4 hours daily to the subject that you are preparing because the more time you give to the subject then you can easily qualify the examination.
