Well dear it is good that you want to go for ias after your engineering.you can go for it from final year of your course.
First you should take the idea of whole syallabus then of the paper pattern.
After that you can start preparing from gs to optionals,give a proper time division to both gs and optionals.
Do not forget to go through the previous years papers of the exam.
