Preliminary Stage: 2 papers (400 marks)
1- General Studies (200 marks)
2- Aptitude Test(200 marks)
Both are of 2 hr duration, objective. There is 1/3rd negative marking for every wrong answer. Marks obtained in prelims is not added to final tally while calculating your rank. It is only for qualifying to give mains.
Mains stage: 9 papers (Total 2000 marks)
1- G.S. - 2 papers (300 marks each)
2- First Optional - 2 papers (300 marks each)
3- Second Optional - 2 papers (300 marks each)
4- Essay paper - 1 paper (200 marks)
5- English - 1 paper (qualifying only- marks not added in final tally)
6- Indian language - 1 paper (qualifying only- marks not added in final tally)
It is absolutely necessary to qualify English and Indian language papers. Otherwise, the rest of the answer sheets will not be evaluated. All the papers are of subjective nature. Time duration for all the papers is 3 hrs.
Interview Stage (300 marks)
Face-to-face interview by a board consisting of 5 members. The interview normally is of 30-40 min.
The final marks are sum total of mains and interview marks on the basis of which final ranks are decided.

Dear the examination pattern is following for IAS exam :
Prelims exam - Objective Type has 2 papers which has only 200 maximum marks for each and qualifying in the prelims is necessary for each and every aspirant
Mains Exam - Conventional type which has 9 various papers and in mains exam you will have to select any two subjects from the list and those two subjects has 4 papers means each has 2 and qualifying in each and every paper is necessary
Paper I - General English - 300 Marks
Paper II - Any Indian Language - 300 Marks
Paper III - Essay - 200 Marks
Paper IV and V - General Studies - I and II - 300 marks each
Paper VI and VII - Any Selected Subject from the list - 300 marks
Paper VIII and IX - Any Selected subject from the list - 300 marks
total marks for all 9 papers - 2000 and you may choose any two subjects from the list

Civil services exam is conducted by UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) this exam held once in a year.
To clearing this exam there are three stage and If you want to become an IAS officer all stage are compulsory.
There are three stage
prelim exam
main exam
interview
prelim exam are the basic exam then 2nd satge is mains exam only prelim cleared candidate are eligible
3rd And last stage is Interview, only those candidate who qualified prelim and ,main both the exam
