Civil Service Aptitude Test(CSAT) is to be introduced from this year onwards
as a change in the pattern of Civil services examination. Earlier the first
stage of Civil services examination was known as the Preliminary exams.
From this year onwards , the first stage of the Civil services will be known
as Civil Service Aptitude Test(CSAT).
CSAT test the candidates skills in sections like mental ability, Quantitative
aptitude, Logical reasoning, Data interpretation, analytical ability,Comprehension
skills etc. apart from the regular General studies section and current affairs.
So the paper will have 2 sections as follows :-
- Paper 1 which will test the General awareness of the candidate.
- Paper 2 which will test various skills like mental ability, Quantitative
aptitude, Logical reasoning, Data interpretation, analytical ability,Comprehension
skills.
Books which are recommended for the above sections are as follows :-
For Paper one you can refer following books :-
- NCERT books in subjects like History, Geography, Civics etc.
- General Studies Manual by Tata McGraw Hill which is really a
good book for this section.
- The Pearson CSAT Manual
- Manorama Year Book which is refered by many toppers.
For paper two you can refer folloing books :-
- Quantitative Aptitude By RS Agrawal
- Non Verbal Reasoning by RS Agrawal
- Cracking CSAT by Arihant Publication which will cover the
entire syllabus for CSAT paper two.
If you want to give the exam of civil services then you have to fill the form of UPSC IAS/IPS exam.
For IAS/IPS exams you can get the job of Indian Administrative Service like DC Deputy Collector or DM deputy Magistrate and for IPS you can get Superintendent Of Police i.e. SP etc.
The eligibility criteria for appearing in UPSC exam is Graduation in any stream from a recognized university.
The Age limit for UPSC exam is 21 to 30 years on 1 August of Exam Year i.e. If you are appearing in 2012 UPSC exam then your age should between 2 August 1982 to 1 August 1991.
I suggest you to take Arts Subjects like History, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy etc. If you have good writing skills then you can absolutely Crack the Exam.
After that you have to go for the Question Pattern of Exam so you should download and print Previous Years Question Papers from www.upsc.gov.in
Model Test Papers and Sample Papers are most important for Practice.
There are two types of written examination in UPSC.
UPSC Prelim exam and UPSC Mains exam. You will appear in UPSC Prelim exam first in which Objective type Questions are asked from General English, General Studies etc.
For UPSC Mains you have to choose Subjects. There are total 51 Optional Subjects in which 23 are from main subjects and 28 Language Subjects like Hindi, English, Bengali etc.
The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 400 marks
The Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an Interview Test. The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type.

History of India and Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc
Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization
For mains exam you have to choose the subjects.

and also start watching news daily reading news papers and read various english novel which can improve ur vocabulary which may help u in language exam
