Dear Guest...Before you decide on your optionals keep these 3 things in mind and then decide...
    1) Your interst and comfort in the subject.
    2) Availability of subject materials.
    3) Consistency and Persistency to pursue the subjects over a period of time without loosing interest.

Considering the above You seem to find Sociology tough although it was your degree subject, if so dont take a chance instead go into the list of optionals in the UPSC website , there are a few subjects which might interest you that dont need previous degree like you can choose :

    Public Administration /English Literature/ any other literature / Geography /History /Political Science /Philosophy/Anthropology

Incase you still want to choose Sociology you can take coaching from Delhi which lasts about 5 months(near to Lucknow) from Upendra who is good for Sociology and there are a few other institutes too offering sociology. If you can not move to Delhi, opt for Postal Coaching that are provided by coaching institutes for a smaller price since accomodation and fees in Delhi are quite expensive.
