Dear Friend,
It is not necessary to clear or appear for IES Exam to get placed in ISRO or DRDO. I will brief you about the selection process of both ISRO and DRDO assuming you are applying for the post of Scientist / Engineer after completing your Engineering.
ISRO Selection Process:
ISRO selects candidates by two different selection processes.
1. If you are doing your Engineering from Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) then you can get selected in ISRO very easily by clearing an interview that is very easy in nature. I mean if you are a student of IIST then you are an automatic choice for ISRO. To get admission in IIST, you have to clear JEE Mains and JEE Advance exams.
2. Every year a central level exam is conducted by ICRB to select candidates for the post of Scientist / Engineer - 'SC'. Any engineer of streams Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science who has obtained more than 70% marks in their Engineering are eligible to apply. Students in final year can also apply but they have to prove their eligibility with all the documents during interview. All candidates who clears written exam are called for an interview and then after interview they have to clear medical test finally to get selected. Notification comes in the month of February, Written exam in April and interview is conducted in July.
DRDO Selection Process:
DRDO also selects candidates by two different selection processes.
1. DRDO visits selected colleges and select candidates by interviewing candidates there. Candidates are shortlisted for Interview according to their rank in their branch.
2. DRDO conducts Scientist Entry Test (SET) to select candidates. Here, also selection process is similar to the one conducted by ISRO but 70% marks criteria is not there for DRDO. But, DRDO does not conduct this test very year for various reasons and if you are lucky, you will get to write this test.
All interviews conducted by both ISRO and DRDO are only technical in nature and most likely you will not be asked any HR related questions.
I hope it clears your doubt and please reply if you want any further clarifications on any point.
Thank you.
