    Dear friend ,

it must be your priority to choose the subject which is very strong for you and you have faith in yourself about the subject

that you can do better with that subject in the examination .

the upsc releases its notification for the civil services examination every year and in the notification for the examination there is a list

of subjects are given for the convenience of candidates in selecting the choices for optional subjects.

the list of the subjects are as under , you can choose any two subjects for your optional subjects.

    choices for optional subjects:-

    #Agriculture,

    #Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science,

    #Botany,

    #Chemistry,

    #Geography,

    #Geology,

    #History,

    #Law,

    #Management,

    #Mathematics,

    #Political Science and International Relations,

    #Psychology,

    #Public Administration,

    #Sociology,

    #Statistics, Zoology

    #Civil Engineering,

    #Commerce and Accountancy, \Economics,

    #Electrical Engineering,

    #Mechanical Engineering,

    #Medical Science,

    #Philosophy,

    #Physics.

so you can choose subjects easily with the choices given above.

but if you are an engineer and want to advice in selection of subjects than i advise you to select mathematics and history because engineers have the command on mathematics and history have very short syllabus so you can easily cover it .

so you should take right decision because your preparation full depends on your decision and your decision are affect your future .

for further details about the examination visit:- http://www.upsc.gov.in

    good luck @

Re: Which optional subject can a B.Tech graduate choose for IAS exam?

Dear there are following optional subjects available to choose anyone for main examination of ICS

    Agriculture
    Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
    Anthropology
    Botany
    Chemistry
    Civil Engineering
    Commerce and Accountancy
    Economics
    Electrical Engineering
    Geography
    Geology
    History
    Law
    Management
    Mathematics
    Mechanical Engineering
    Medical Science
    Philosophy
    Physics
    Political Science and International Relations
    Psychology
    Public Administration
    Sociology
    Statistics
    Zoology

Now you have to choose anyone subject from the list to appear for two optional subject papers in main examination which contains 250 marks each and passing in both papers is compulsory so you will have to study hard for this subject and to score higher marks and as you are from B.Tech IT stream so I would like to suggest you to choose any one of the - Civil Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering as your optional subject and if you do not want to select anyone of them then you have the right to select any subject as per your choice so mostly you must prefer - Geography or History or Political Science and International Relations and if your mathematics is good then select this subject so you could score good marks and pass examination

I have attached official notification for Indian Civil Service Examination please download and prepare well for examination

    All the best
