IPS - Indian Police Service post comes under civil service service examination and before becoming IPS Officer, you will have to qualify civil service examination prelims and mains both then physical and medical test with Interview process then only you will become IAS Officer and your rank or marks should be enough according to the required cut-off marks for IPS post after civil service examination
Civil Service prelims examination, last year cut-off marks was around 306-310 for general category that is why this year's cut-off marks may be increased because competition and number of civil service aspirants are being increased everyday that is why you need not to concentrate on marks because if you will care for securing minimum qualifying marks then you will not prepare well for every section of this examination and that will be your failure so please think about you future as IPS Officer in India under central government and prepare well for this examination and if possible then you must try to score around 350 marks out of 400 in civil service prelims exam and qualifying in mains exam is mandatory so prepare for both exams and get good guidance in your preparation and also keep your practice continue for physical and medical tests
I have attached civil service 2013 examination advertisement please download and get all other details about selection and syllabus of this examination
