What type of scoring pattern does UPSC follow when preparing final merit list? Does it follow any normalization pattern like some other exams?

doubt in civil services exam scoring pattern

I would like to know if there is any normalisation of marks scored in civil services exam like in some other exams?
There are tougher papers like engineering subjects and easier papers are also there. How a person's marks scored in mechanical engineering (for example) is differentiated from others' who have taken a relatively easier paper? Or just the marks scored out of 600 alone is taken. If there is no normalisation, don't you feel that those who have taken easier papers are having distinct advantage? Please clarify.

It is based on the categories normally... The categories are OC, MBC and SC/ST where Ph1,2,3 and ex-army also include in this four categories... The maximum benefit or lowest cut-off will be for Ph-3 and SC/ST, highest cut-off will be General or OC. But the vacancies will be more for General or OC as the no of students in OC are more...
PAPER I - one of the Indian languages out of 18 (300 marks)
PAPER II - English (300 marks)
PAPER III - Essay (200 marks)
PAPER IV and V- General studies (300 marks each)= 600 marks
PAPER VI, VII, VIII and IX- Any two subjects (each of two papers) from prescribed optional subjects (300 marks for each paper) = 1200
Interview - 300 marks
Total - 2300 marks

Dear actually your argument is right about the scoring and preparing final merit list for final selection of candidates through UPSC exams because there are some stages in examination like

Preliminary Examination - 400 marks in civil service for 2 objective type papers and passing in this test is necessary by securing minimum qualifying marks but this will only be a screening test for candidates and there is no part of the marks scored in this examination in final selection means your marks of prelims exam will be not added in the final merit list so this is only a qualifying test for all candidates for main examination

Main Examination - 7 conventional type papers for 1800 marks in which passing in each paper is compulsory and final merit list will be prepared of the marks of all papers mentioned above so scoring will be calculated out of 1800 marks and there will be some responsible things in the calculation of marks which is the performance of the candidate provided in the answers so experts will provide their views and analyze the score then allot the score to the candidate in each paper and whatever you score in main examination will be added with the scored marks of personality test means maximum marks of main exam and marks of personality test are really responsible for your final selection

Personality Test - 275 marks and scored marks in this test will be added with the scored marks of main exam so your final selection will be done on the basis of the ranking and total 2075 marks including main exam and interview process and suppose you score 1375 marks in main examination out of 1800 and secured 185 marks in personality test out of 275 marks ​so your total score will be - 1375+185 = 1560 and your score will be decided on the basis of your qualifications and achievements which only effects the ranking of personality test and if you are experienced person then you will get good marks

If UPSC declare the score required for final selection for various posts then you will be posted according to that as UPSC requires - 1600 marks for Indian Foreign Service then your score is less and you will not be shortlisted for that post but requires 1500 marks for Indian Revenue Service then you will be shortlisted to be posted under revenue services because your score is more than required so your selection depends on the above procedure and you should clarify your all doubts by reading this carefully and more details are available in attached notification
