Biodiversity summit is being held every 2 years. in 2010 it was conducted in Nagoya, japan. In that summit Nagoya protocol was signed by all conference of parties.
This nagoya protocol aims at access and benefit sharing of genetic resources. It provides a legal framework for sharing the benefits from the utilization of genetic resources with the native people. Based on this protocol, individual countries ca develop their own laws for benefit sharing.
This 6th summit in Hyderabad, will provide a platform to scrutinise the steps taken in this regard. Livelihoods and biodiversity will be the topics of discussion under the theme "nature protects if she is protected". the biodiversity action plans and strategies prepared by each country will be evaluated. The COP (conference of parties) will also review the steps taken for biodiversity conservation and efficient usage
