to become a customs officer you have to clear the UPSC Civil Services Exam.
it is conducted every year by UPSC. for appearing in Civil Services Exam you have to satisfy the eligibility criteria for it.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Graduation from recognized college or university with any percentage.
2. your age must be within 21 years to 30 years on 1 August of the year of exam.
there is relaxation in upper age limit upto 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.

you have to write civil services exam conducted by UPSC. Many posts are offered in this exam , one such posts is Indian REvenue service (customs¢ral excise, group 'A') . This exam is conducted in 3 stages
1) Preliminary exam
objective type - 2 papers. The prelims exam is conducted in may month of every year.
2) Main exam
Subjective type- only candidates who qualified in prelims can appear for mains exam. This exam is usually conducted in october month.
3) Interview
Candidates who qualify mains exam are called for a personal interview.
After interview is over, final rank list (mains+interview) is published. Based on your rank and post preference you will get a post

UPSC don�t conduct any exam for the post of custom officer.
UPSC conducts the following exam
If you want to apply for the post of custom officer then you can apply this through Staff Selection Commission.
SSC conducts the combined graduation level for custom officer exam.
CGL exam is conducted every year at national level.
Qualification for the CGL exam
Candidates must be graduation qualified in any stream from recognized university or its equivalent.
Candidate�s age must be between 18 to 27 years
Age relaxation to eligible category
SC/ST + 5 years
OBC + 3 years
You must be Indian.
You can apply for CGL exam in next year 2013.
