in UPSC and any competitive examination there are two rounds r der ;

1. prelims:

in this u have objectives type of questions ;

it include . genral knowledge
social studies
indian constitutions.
and maths(apttitude)

that for 200 marks. in most if exams.

2. mains ;

those who r passed in prelims that will get chance in mains

this is not an objective type this is fully writting exams'

in it u have 6 subjects and from that 2 r compulsury and other 4 u have to choose from 34 sunject list .

like this u have 6 subject.

this will for 2300 marks ...

this r diffrence is der all d best.
