My friend cleared Civil Services prelims exam - 2012, due to health issues she couldn't apply for mains exam. Can she write her mains exam in 2013 based on her prelims score of 2012? Is it necessary to take prelims again in 2013?

Friend of mine cleared the prelims (UPSC) in 2012 and she could not take the mains exams 2012 as she is not well now (she did not apply) Can she write her mains exam in 2013, based on her pass in prelims 2012 or she has to take again the prelims in 2013. Kindly help sir.

Yes it is necessary to take the Prelims/CSAT 2013 exam again.

The score of prelims exams 2012 will not be valid for appearing in Mains exams 2013.

You have to reappear in CSAT 2013 and clear it to be eligible to appear in Mains Exams 2013.

UPSC Civil Services Exams consists of :

Prelims/CSAT-Clear the CSAT to be eligible to appear in the Mains exams.It consists of general studies Paper 1 & Paper 2.

Sorry to say but your friend can't appear directly in Main exam in next year on the basis of this year preliminary marks .

Because UPSC have some rules and regulations that should followed by everyone .

For whatever the reason if one can't give the Main exam then on the next year one have to start with initial stage i.e. Preliminary exam , there will not any relaxation for this .

So as your friend couldn't give the main exam so that her one attempt is also considered and on the next year she have to start with preliminary exam once again .

So don't keep the hope about any relaxation just start the preparation for the preliminary exam once again .

Please clear your confusion that the score of prelims exams in a year is valid for only the year in which it is held.It is valid for the next year .

So, friend your friend must have to give the preliminary examination once more in the 2013 and clear it ,so as to become eligible for the mains examination.

Civil services examinations are very tough and is conducted in three stages:

1.Preliminary examination now called CSAT

2.Main examination

3.Personal interview


Eligibility criteria:

~~Bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognised university.

~~your age must be between 17 to 21 years.

~~you must be an Indian citizen.

I am very sorry to say that but that's true what randhrik.rk said.

Your friend, wont be able to appear in the Mains of 2013 on behalf of score of 2012.

He/She will need to appear in the examination again of CSAT 2012.

There are three levels to UPSC civil services :

>> CSAT

?>> Mains

>> Interview

You have to clear again csat 2013 prelims exam.
The score of 2012 prelims is independent of 2013 prelims exam.
For csat exam:-
You must have passed graduate from a recognized university.
Age limit is 21 to 30 years.

dear friend ,

if any person is not able to attend their mains examination than he/she cannot appear in the mains examination in next year because the score of prelims examination is valid only for that particular year in which he/she appear in the examination .

so if your friend were missed the opportunity due to some reason so he will not appear to the mains examination in next year,

he/she have to re appear in the prelims examination(which is called as CSAT now) and will have to pass in the examination to appear in the mains examination .


you have to remember that the score of csat 2012 examination is not treated as valid score for csat 2013

so my dear friend ,

encourage your friend that he/she should not

loose his/her heart and re- appear in the examination with full confidence .
because if he can pass the examination once than he can pass it again .

It is not possible for getting qualified in the current year on the basis of previous year performance in the examination.
your friend had to give the prelims again for next examination.
If she has worked hard and gaver her full dedication than I am sure she will get selected for mains in the next exam too.
She just need to brush up her preparation and update herself about the current event.
But coming to your query she has to appear all over again in the next UPSC Civil Services Exam.

Sorry He is not Eligible.Its nice your friend cleared prelims but scores of 2012 prelims valid for that year only, no matter just go ahead and start from scratch. Its not tough for your friend to clear

For you kind information that if your friend were cleared UPSC prelims 2012 then she must have applied for mains exam but if she could not applied for the mains then there is no profit for UPSC mains or prelims 2013 means she will have to apply for UPSC preliminary exam 2013 again and she will have to crack the exam again then she would be eligible to appear for mains exam but don't forget to apply due to any issue and when you type of friends are there with her then how should she be so late, you must help your friend in every situation then you would be called but not she must apply again for prelims exam and score the minimum qualifying marks according to category and when she has already cracked the prelims then she has to revise the syllabus at once and in this time she can crack the exam easily.

No she cannot take the Mains 2013 on the basis of 2012 prelims and if she want to appear for the exam again then it is must for her to appear in the Prelims again and then only she can proceed further..
