to have better knowledge of concepts of the high level,
you must have to gain the base knowledge of all those concepts and the base concepts are in the NCERT books,
you should first manage your time for study,

Dear,
From where should I start preparation for UPSC preliminary and mains exam?
Firstly you set your mind when will you give the exam after that you start your preparation from the NCERT books. You read the daily news paper for the updating
regarding Indian economy, political science, and read the magazines to know about the new concept. For the general study you solve the previous year paper. Set your
mind and set the time management according to your daily routine that is beneficial for you in the future.
For the optional subject you read the different-2 books to know about the concept.
The exam held in the month of the may,
Best of luck for the exam.
things to do to start preparation:
1) look at the syllabus first for prelims and have a overall idea of what to read
2) what not to read is the most important question and if you could know the answer then you can better utilize the available time. To know this answer, you should look on to previous year question papers. then you can come to know the way questions are being asked. THis will help you when you read a subject. you should be able to know from which parts questions may be asked. this is an important virtue of clearing the exam, which will not come within days. so you should carefully practice and groom your skill of predicting the questions
3) Reading newspaper daily. this will help understanding the current events which form major part of questions asked
4) finally get to know from people who have already attempted or some coaching institutes for which books to study. This is also very important
