if you completed your degree from an open university then there is no problem you are eligible for the civil services examination.

look friend,

there is no any term in the notification of civil services examination saying that the degree holder from open university are not eligible for the examination which means you are eligible for the examination, but yes the university by which you obtained your degree must be a govt recognized .

there are two basic requirements only which is to be fulfilled by you if you wish to become an IAS officer .

1. THE CANDIDATE MUST BE A GRADUATE WITH A GOVT RECOGNIZED UNIVERSITY IN ANY STREAM.

Eligibility for IAS Examination 2013-14

Candidate should have passed bachelor's degree examination in any discipline from a recognized university

Final year pursuing candidates or final year examination appearing or final year exam result awaited candidates are also allowed to apply only for preliminary examination

Age should be minimum 21 years and should not be more than 30 years and relaxation in upper age as per government guidelines which is 3 years for SC/ST and 5 years for OBCs

If you have completed your bachelor's degree from Dr. BR Ambedkar Open University Hyderabad then you should not worry because that university is recognized and you are eligible to apply for this examination

IAS Preliminary Examination is going to be conducted around April 2014 so you should collect study materials and good books to prepare for this exam and if possible then do not hesitate in joining any very good coaching institute because they will make you perfect to appear for examination and I am sure that you will pass that examination

Preliminary Examination has 2 papers of objective type pattern that contains 400 marks where - General Studies for 200 and CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test for 200 marks. Qualifying in preliminary examination is necessary then only you will be allowed to apply for main examination

Main Examination has following conventional type papers :

Paper I - Section I for Essay of 200 marks and Section II for English Comprehension and Precis - 100 marks = 300 marks

Paper II, III, IV and V - General Studies - 250 marks each

Paper VI and VII - Based on the selected optional subject for this examination and you will get the list of optional subjects in that you can choose anyone according to your own choice and prepare for this examination and both of these papers contains 250 marks each

Total marks - 1800 for main examination and remember that you have to qualify in each paper of the main examination then only you will get call letter for interview process

Personality Test - 275 marks and your final selection will be finalized on the basis of the marks scored in main exam and personality test that means there is no part of prelims score in making merit for finally selected candidates
