GEN- 21 to 30 year
OBC- 21 to 33 year
SC/ST- 21 to 35 year

For general catgeory: 21-30 years
For Obc: 21-33 years
For SC/ST category: 21-35 years
Since your age is 40 years,so you are not eligible for the civil services examination according to the age limitations.
If You are interested in other examination then there is one examinations which you can give at the age of 40 years that is NET examinations conducted by UGC very year.
NET stands for the National Eligiblity test.It is conducted by UGC twice every year.
>>Post graduation is the minimum academic requirement for this examination.Final year post graduate candidate can also give this examination.
>>There is no age limit for this examination for the Lectureship post.

For Civil Services Exam age should be
For General Category 21-30 years
For OBC Category 21-33 years
For SC/ST Category 21-35 years
Candidate should be graduate from any recognized university.
So dear you can not fill the criteria therefor you are not eligible for this exam.

I am very sorry to say that you cannot sit in the exam.
There are some restrictions on the age of the candidates who can sit for the exam.
The age criteria is as following:
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, in the year of examination.
The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable in the following cases:
-> Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe: upto a maximum of five years.
-> Other Backward Classes: upto a maximum of three years.
->State of Jammu & Kashmir (Domiciled during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to 31st December,
1989): upto a maximum of five years.
-> Defence Services personnel : upto a maximum of five years.
Since you fail to satisfy this criteria,you cannot sit in the exam!

- No, you are not eligible for the civil services examination after attaining the age of 40 years.
- For this, your age must be in between the 21 years to the 30 years.
- If you are from other backward classes (OBC) category, then due to age relaxations of three years, the age limit becomes 21 years to 33 years.

The age limit for IAS exam is 21 to 30 years if you are general category.
There is age relaxation for SC/ST for 5 years , 3 years for OBC and 10 years for Physically handicapped.
I don�t think you are physically handicapped as you haven�t mentioned anything about it.
Hence i am sorry to say that you are not eligible for IAS exam with this age.

Maximum age for applying in civil services are 45 years.For those who are Ex-serviceman.
For General candidates no relaxation on age.
21 - 30 years.
For Sc/St - 21- 35 years.

As per the age limit needed for the Civil Service exam and the age limit needed is 21-30 years and there are certain upper age relaxations but also when comparing them you are not eligible for the exam.

The required age limits for the UPSC exams lies within 16.5 years to a maximum 35 years (that too the latter for the SC/ST).
Since you are way above it, I am really sorry you cannot apply for the Civil Service Examination.

civil services examination is a high level examination conducted by upsc every year.
the age limit to appear for this examination is 21-30 years .
as per your present age you are not eligible to appear for th e civil services examination.
but there is an age relaxation for the obc and the SC/ST category aspirants .
the age relaxation for the OBC aspirants is 3 years while the age relaxation for the SC/ST category is of 5 years.
apart from that there is an age relaxation of 10 years for the physically handicap aspirants .
so if you are physically handicap and OBC or SC/ST category aspirants then you can appear for this examination otherwise you can't .
