Re: Can I apply for IAS exam if pursuing BAMS course?

Dear as you are pursuing your graduation in Ayurvedic medicine subject so there is no problem to apply for this examination because you can apply for Indian Civil Service Examination on the basis of any bachelor's degree that is why you should not worry and just keep your preparation continue for upcoming ICS 2014

But remember that you should be either pursuing final year of your graduation or completed your degree from a recognized university and your age should not be more than 30 years otherwise you will not be considered eligible to apply for this examination

If you wants to know about that which subject you should prefer to prepare for main examination so I would say that you are from medical stream and there are following subjects available in main examination to choose for two optional papers (one subject for both papers) and choice depends on you that what you choose for main exam optional subject papers

    Agriculture
    Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
    Anthropology
    Botany
    Chemistry
    Civil Engineering
    Commerce and Accountancy
    Economics
    Electrical Engineering
    Geography
    Geology
    History
    Law
    Management
    Mathematics
    Mechanical Engineering
    Medical Science
    Philosophy
    Physics
    Political Science and International Relations
    Psychology
    Public Administration
    Sociology
    Statistics
    Zoology

Now you know that you are somewhere related with any subject or may be that you are interested in any subject listed above that is why you should select that because having interest is necessary in particular subject before choosing that for main examination of civil service as Ayurvedic is somewhere may be related with Botany/ Agriculture but I would say that you should read the syllabus of subjects and choose a one which seems interesting for you because you have the right to select any subject from these mentioned subjects so you can take arts subjects also - Public Administration, Political Science, Geography etc. that will help you in preparation of main examination because arts subjects are related with GS so it will be useful for you while preparing for other four GS Papers of main examination

You may also take suggestion of some senior and other toppers who have passed in examination so they may give you a right way to get success in this examination

    All the best
