The IRS is the post, which is allotted on the marks obtained in the upsc civil services exam.
The civil services is the exam conducted by the upsc once in an year. There are three phases for this exam.
1. Prelims
2. Mains
3. Interview
If you clear all the phases, then according to your marks, the departments are allotted in which your preference is also asked. If you go on with the IRS department then it will be allotted to you.
