Dear IRS Stands for Indian Revenue Service that is a separate department under the central government of India and comes under the civil services of India. This service functions under the Ministry of Finance in India and responsible for the collection of various direct and indirect taxes in India that includes all states of India because national service officers work under this and mainly for the issues related to tax
Indian Revenue Service Officers are mainly in touch with the department of Tax and Customs in India and sometimes posted to serve many other department in the central and state government of India. IRS Officers are really helpful for various intelligence agencies of India because they help to get data and complete record of income tax including direct and indirect and mainly CBI and IRS Officers work together in case of tax scams because IRS Officers collect complete information of the tax not paid by the people and stealing from the government despite being under the service and rule of the government they take all the people to steal tax under the scanner then helps CBI in completing their process
Basically IRS Officers are responsible to unearth various scams and corruption in India because until they provide the information to the CBI and other intelligences agencies can not work because evidence is necessary at all stages so they work with the intelligences and find out many scams done in India
IRS Officers are recruited through Indian Civil Service Examination conducted by UPSC board once a year and if you want to become IRS Officer in India then you will have to pass - Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Personality Test of this recruitment then your selection will be based on the scored marks in main exam and personality test so you should prepare well and try to score higher than that of others so you can prefer IRS post and get this rank on your own
Next year ICS preliminary examination will be held around April-May of the year and main examination will be conducted around December of 2014 so you have enough time and if you wish then you can complete information and study of this exam within a year with being practiced every time

Indian Revenue service is a 'group A' service,which comes under the union ministry of finance(department of revenue).so it is an central government service
The main job of the irs personnels are related with the collection of tax revenue and as the name indicates it deals with collection and management of revenue.
there are two types of IRS
IRS(income tax)
IRS(customs and central excise)
the statutory body for IRS(IT) is CBDT.for IRS(it) the training will be conducted at nagpur.
for irs(c&ce) the statutory body is CBEC. officers will be trained in faridabad
You have to write the civil services examination conducted by the union public service commission in order to become an IRS officer.
The examination is a three stage process comprising prelims,mains,personality test. After successful selection you will be appointed as the assistant commissioner of income tax.
you can reach the level of chairman which is the last level.
you should also give first preference to IRS in the mains form to enter in to this service otherwise you may be allotted to other depending upon your rank.

IRS stands for Indian Revenue Services which is a post and not an exam.
You can join the IRS by appearing/clearing the UPSC Civil Services exam (CSE).
CSE is conducted every year to make recruitment to 24 services/posts.
Posts are allotted based on the rank secured in the Final Merit List.
Educational Qualification:
A Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a UGC/AICTE recognized University
Final year appeared/appearing candidates can also apply.
Age Limit:
General Category-21-30yrs on 1st August of the year of exam
OBC-21-33yrs
SC/ST-21-35yrs
