Central Civil Services examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission every year.
State Services examination is conducted by state public service commission.
State services examination is the total responsibility of state government and officers work in the same state.
Civil Services qualifiers may be allotted into any state by UPSC.
State civil services examinations are not conducted every year usually, it depends on vacancies.
Syllabus is mostly similar in nature with minor differences but patterns differs state to state.
You should prepare for Civil Services and put some emphasis on state examination also.
Friend, there are two types of civil services examination conducted. One is Civil Service Examination which is conducted by Union Public Service Commission. It makes recruitment examination for the IAS cadre. The recruited IAS cadre are liable to AISL (All India Service Liability) which means an IAS officer should be ready to serve anywhere in the India.The other one is State Level Civil Service Examination. In this examination, there is no any involvement/interference of UPSC/Central Government and this examination is conducted by State Public Service Commission. The recruited officer are liable to anywhere in the concerned State only. They are liable to serve outside the serve.As far as syllabus of civil service examination is concerned, the difference in syllabus of Central level and State level civil service exams may be slightly differs or may highly differs. In many States, there is slight difference in syllabus of both. In many States, the syllabus differs much.
