After the graduation you gave the competitive exam civil service exam which is taken by the upsc.
Eligibility criteria for the civil service exam:-
Candidate must have graduation in any stream from the approved university
The age limit for the candidate is the 21 to 30 years with 4 chances to attempt the exam.
Age relaxation for the unreserved category.
The exam notification of the exam 2013 is declared by the upsc in the month of the February.
The preliminary exam is held in the month of the May and mains exam in the month of the November.
In the preliminary exam two papers is held both of them is the general studies.
In the mains exam you took the two optional subject form the optional subject list and 4 papers is held of two subject
One paper is the general English
One paper is the language
Two paper is the general study,

If you have completed your graduation as B.Tech in engineering stream then you may join the civil services field easily means you are eligible for the civil services exams and if once you qualify the prelims examination then you can choose your favorite subject for mains exams means you may also choose your graduation specialization subject but before this you will have to be passed in the Civil Services Preliminary exams which is conducted by UPSC Board.

Eligibility for IAS/IPS/IFS exams 2012 or Civil Services exams

A bachelor degree in any subject/discipline from a recognized university with at least 50% marks

Candidate's age should not be less than 21 years and more than 30 years and relaxation in upper age provided only for reserved category candidates as per government standards.

5 years upper age relaxation for SC/STs and 3 years upper age relaxation for OBC category candidates

You will have to apply for pre exam and you will see the objective type exam pattern in prelims and fortunately if you qualify in the prelims exams then you would be allowed to appear for mains exam but if you could not qualify then you will not be eligible for IAS mains exams and in the mains exam you will have to write the answers or essays at the given topic means there is no chance for objective type questions and for this you will have to make your writing sharper, faster and stronger than others then you would be able to qualify this section and after qualifying this exam you will have to appear for interview process which would be conducted by IAS Association and UPSC Board and this is the most toughest section which is most important to qualify because if you get qualified in this section then you would be an IAS or any other civil services officer under the Indian Government.

So prepare hard for prelims exams and collect more and more knowledge about the world and give at least 15 hours in a day for your study then you would be able to fight against all those who are preparing for civil services exams from 3-4 years.

In order to join the civil services,you have to compete the civil services examinations which is organised by the UPSC every year with following pattern:

1.Civil services aptitude test

2.Main examination

3.Personal interview.

First all you need to be eligible for this examinations.The eligibility criteria:

>>Bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement.Since you have completed you bachelor of technology in IT ,so you are eligible for it.

>>Your age must be between 21-30 years.

>>Relaxations of three years and 5 year to sc/st respectively.

>>No of attempts: It is four for general,seven for obc and no limit for sc/st respectively.

You have completed B-Tech degree so you are applicable for Civil Service exam.

But your age should be in between 21 to 30 years old.Age relaxation is provide for SC/ST/OBC category as per govt rule.

The maximum attempts for SC/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.
