Civil service examination requires continuous study efforts.But the numbers of hours one can devote for study varies from person to person.So it cannot be justified. Some are first to grasp concept.Some don't count reading newspaper in study hours.But I think 6-8 hours of study will be sufficient.
Someone is guiding you.You are good in your optional subjects.You have aptitude for studying General studies then you need not require coaching.But if there is no support.Your concepts are not clear in Optional paper or you not sure about what to study and how to study then must join reputed coaching institutes.
Generally Delhi is considered as best palace for IAS coaching and study environment

Coaching is not necessary but according to me coaching

-First Answer the IAS candidate should study for not less than 8 hours
per days to crack IAS and not more than 12 hour,because if you study 12 hour
then after that at least your mind need.8 hour rest.
-Yes you can crack IAS with yourself,but you Mus have prepare a strategy
for success in IAS,which should cover syllabus of IAS and also include proper
study hours.
-if you need to take coaching of IAS then I must suggest you to take coaching from Delhi and specialy from chanakya class of IAS.
