If you really wish to crack the UPSC - IAS civil service exam then you should have following strategy for your study about IAS exam :

You should decide your complete syllabus in a limited schedule means you have to make a time table for your study and first of all leave all other studies as - diploma courses and all other networks so that you could feel free all the time and care about your study only.

You have to give at least 80% time or about 19-20 hours for your complete study and only you have to do your personal works and other daily activities then you would be concentrated for your study

You should avoid or leave your all social networking and meet only those who teach you something and not become the cause of the time spending try to go outside only when needed and don't hangout unnecessarily.

I think you should give 8 hours daily with full concentration. If you can give more time, it will be better. Success in civil service exam depends on two things. One is hard labour and other is proper planning. Generally IAS candidates give more than 10 hours a day in study. But if you have good planning and intelligence you can spend less time in study. The matter totally depends on you. Firt know about your ability, capacity and intelligence.

It depends on you to decide the number of hours you want to study. The study should be systematic and organised then only you will be able to complete the syllabus.

Syllabus for IAS exam is very vast and you have to give a lot of time to the subjects in which you are weak.
By proper time management you can study for less time and gain a lot.

IAS preparation is a continuous process and you have to make your way of studying a little bit interesting
otherwise you will be bored and will not gain anything in spite of studying long hours.

Make a time table for every subject and assign time for each subjects according to your weakness.

Means those subjects in which you have problem must get more attention .

Buy some good books which have all the facts in a organised manner so that you can grasp it easily.

To crack the IAS exam in 2013,You have to prepare 8-9 hours per a day.So that only you can get grip on the subjects.You need to solve the many previous IAS papers for getting fastness to answering the questions
