Lots of people use the term IPS exam or IAS exam ,I would like to tell you that UPSC conducts an entrance exam for the services like Indian Police services,Indian Administrative services etc and it is called Civil services examination.

So instead of IPS exam or IAS exam we should use the term Civil services examination.

As you have asked that how many times a candidates can appear for the Civil services examinations:

>>It totally depends upon your category to which you belong .

>>For example if you are from general category then you will get four attempts and if from obc then seven attempts and if you are from SC/ST then you can attempt all the exams that fall within your age limit that is 21-5 years.General age limit is21-30 years.

To become IPS Officer, one has to give the civil services exam conducted by UPSC.

This Civil services exam is conducted country wide for recruitment into 22 different departments.

Required eligibility conditions to give this exam are as follows:

Candidate must have any degree or equivalent from recognized University.

Candidate must have acquired minimum 21 years and maximum 30 years for general category.

There is upper age relaxation as follows for reserved category candidates as per the government norms.

The maximum age limit for OBC Category is 33 years.

The maximum age limit for SC/ST Category is 35 years.

There is also restriction on the number of attempts for this exam, it is as follows:

4 attempts are allowed for general category.

7 attempts are allowed for OBC Category.

No restriction for SC/ST Category.
