How many years does a candidate take in an average to achieve top ranks in UPSC Civil Services Exam? Post your opinions on preparation duration of successful candidates.

Hi, want the general overview of the people who has secured top ranks in UPSC exams. How many years on average they put the effort?

Some candidate says that they only studied 1 year but looking at the curriculum it looks like it may not be completed in one year.

I also remember Ankur Garg mentioning (IAS-2002 topper) that he has been reading CSR magazine since he was 06 years old.

Sometimes it gets confusing for others when some of these sucessful candidates says preparation only takes 1 years whereas some says it may take many years.

    Your thought on this?

Dear there are lakhs of students who are preparing for civil services and other competitive exams but we should take only our personal discussion over civil service examination so you will find out various feedback over the preparation and success of civil service competitive examination because every student is not same at this time and when they prepare for everyone use their own ways and techniques to be prepared for examination and India is very larger and second highest populated country in the world so you should know that each facility is not available everywhere and students wants to become IAS Officer in India so they will have some necessities for preparation for this examination but every student has not enough sources and required facilities to prepare for this examination because coaching and institutes are not available everywhere and some of the best coaching institutes demands for higher fee that most of the students can not afford at once that is why there are so many reasons behind the preparation

Some of the students who are from villages of various states of India takes coaching institutes in various government coaching centers and personally prepare with the help of top books required for this examination but they do not get very good assistance and guidance at the right time while being prepared for examination that is why they take more than 3 years to qualify examination but if a student is taking very good and top coaching in India then obviously he/she will take less time than that of others who does not have enough facilities to be prepared

There are some other reasons also comes sometimes that so many candidates belongs to rich families and gets more than required facilities by their parents and despite getting enough luxuries in preparation, they are not getting selected in many years so dedication to the preparation and career is also highly responsible for your final selection so if the candidate is not dedicated and care about the preparation then he/she may never get selected in any examination even after receiving all necessary requirements for the preparation and if a student belongs to poor family and wants to seriously become an IAS Officers and ready to do everything for his/her career then no hurdle can stop that one to get selected in exam and becoming IAS Officer

Some other things that affects the duration of our selection is that all students study and take guidance for preparation and appear for examination but they qualify preliminary examination of the ICS and fails in one or two or more papers for main examination so again he/she will appear for preliminary test and pass that test then appear for main examination and if he/she fails twice then some of the students gets frustrated while preparation but those who are not worried about their failure and just keep their preparation consistent and up to day gets positive result a time that is why sometimes these type of situations becomes cause of long duration in final selection for any post

According to my personal views about the preparation of Indian Civil Service Examination, students should be dedicated to the career first because not only he/she but his/her parents also wants their success so we should care about everything behind the preparation of any competitive examination and then try to consume everything for the preparation because grounding of any exam is not easy and for that you just have to be guided by experts so take help of coaching institute and shirk yourself for sometime and keep yourself confidential until you get success and do not share anything openly that you are going to be IAS Officer soon and have passed in examination and when you achieve your target then you can distribute sweets in your entire society

After getting coaching institute, you should also set your separate time to be prepared for this exam because most of the coaching institutes will give you about 7 hours everyday so your own preparation also should be for more than 7 hours so you take about 14 hours everyday only for preparation and there should be no worry in your mind about preparation and career and just keep your preparation up as per the requirement and do not hate from any subject comes under the syllabus and try to take interest in study for betterment in preparation because knowledge of anything is not bad so try to collect knowledge as much as possible and whenever your confidence seems to be down while preparation then have some rest and decrease the time of study but do not leave preparation any day and you can read some interviews of IAS Toppers and other great people to earn motivation - Swami Vivekananda Books for encouragement in heart then start preparing

Be confident about your preparation and appear for examination and do not make excuses if you get failed and prepare again and if you once prepare with dedication then you will get success at once so that will be covered by you at this time and do not forget to follow the syllabus and get some good books needed for in depth knowledge of subjects and follow all the guidelines of the experts in coaching institute and share your thoughts and keep checking the level of study by appearing in weekly tests conducted by coaching institutes and analyze over your performance and do not stop until you get more than 95% marks in practice tests

14 hours are enough everyday and I am sure that after deciding fix time of 1 year you will take less time to prepare for this test and I hope you will follow it but also take opinion of experts so they could make you understand well according to their experience in preparation

When you appear for personality test then you will be instructed by the expert and you can take help of your senior students who have appeared for interview and your marks will be highly responsible for final selection so try your best to get highest

I have provided you advertisement for this exam please download

    All the best

It is not any rule that some compulsory years have been to studied for preparation of IAS exam.
One can crack top ranks in first chance and another cannot pass even pre exam in his whole life.
As you are asking for average then you can estimate that in 2-3rd chance one can get selection for IAS and top ranks in 4-5th chances.
This was my personal view and an average estimate.
So if you have posative thinking in your mind then you can do it in your 1-2nd chance.
    Some takes 6-7 chances.
    So you should carry on.

It depends on the willingness, inspiration and passion of the candidate towards this service... It can't be achieved in a day it should come from childhood.... Many candidates appear for exam but only some get through and in that some also only few get IAS which is achieved only through inspiration, hard work and concentration of the candidate towards the subject and the service... If you prepare from your higher school i.e 11th then there is a chance of getting top ranks otherwise it is tough because its not a one day work...

    dear aspirant,

time of preparation depends on the caliber of the candidates. some candidates learn fast and other take time to learn. So its on your how much time it will take for preparation.

on average i think that 1 year of time is sufficient for preparation. as you know there are lakhs of candidates participate in Civil Services exam every year. there is large competition and you have to work hard to achieve your goal.

you have to focus on the exam and have to do preparation on high node. be confident and work hard. you can also join coaching institute if you want. but if not you can also do self study. remember self study is the key to success. a large number of candidates have achieved the goal without any external coaching.

hope you understand and only concentrate on preparation for the exam.

    Good Luck.....
