dear if you have your completed mechanical engineering then in my opinion IES is the best post for your background. But if you want to apply for civil service then ok you should follow below things.
1. daily read newspapers, magazines and patrika darpan n note down current affaris n GK.
2. daily give 4-5 hours for your study.
3. give more efforts for your study, hard working n struggle.
4. be punctual for timing to give for study.

Candidate must have completed graduation or engineering from a recognized university .
candidates who appearing in final year of graduation or engineering can also apply for the upsc exams.
>>Age limit for the upsc exams is 21 to 30 years.
>>Age relaxation of 3 years is given to those candidates who belongs to OBC category.
>>Age relaxation of 5 years is given to those candidates who belongs to sc category.
Preliminary Exam : this would be objective type exam in which you will have to attempt two papers in a day and each paper would contain 200 marks so that the grand total becomes 400 and qualifying is important to appear for next exam.
Mains Examination : this would be descriptive type paper where you have to face 7 different papers and total marks would be 2000 for all 7 papers and you will have to be passed in this exam then you would be allowed to face interview process.
Interview Process : If you qualify both papers then you would be allowed to face interview and if you qualify the interview process then you would finally selected for civil services and you would be sent for 2 years training under the government then you will get the appointment.
