Dear its great to know your dream that you want to fight against the social evils in the country and remove them from the society that is completely bad for the people in India and I am sure that if you are dedicated towards your dream and ready to work harder for the country then your dream will come true very soon because your thoughts says that one day you are going to be a highly powerful authority in India that will support the country in development so let's be on the topic where we was :

You want to become Deputy Commissioner of Police in India and in your own state - Andhrapradesh so I would say that your desire can come true if you walk according to the demand of the situation at present

DCP is the rank that has no separate recruitment process to be ! but you can become DCP after getting promotion in your job and before that you will have to become IPS Officer in India and to become IPS Officer you need to pass Indian Civil Service - Preliminary, Main exam and Personality Test then Physical and Medical Tests so you will become IPS Officer and your posting will be finalized in that state that you will prefer before application

You are in second year of your graduation of engineering and a candidate should have either passed a bachelor's degree or pursuing final year of graduation to apply for Indian Civil Service Examination

Age should not be less than 21 years and more than 30 years and relaxation in upper age as per government guidelines that is 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC category candidates

    Selection Process of IPS Officer

Preliminary Examination - Conducted around April - May of the year and consist of two objective type papers that are - General Studies and CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test in that each paper contains 200 marks. Qualifying in preliminary is necessary then only you will be allowed to apply for main exam

Main Examination - Conducted around November - December of the year and consist of 7 conventional type papers that covers 1800 marks and passing in each paper of this test is necessary so preparation should be harder than that of others

Personality Test - 275 marks for those who will secure minimum qualifying marks in main examination for a particular preferred state and under the category either reserved or unreserved

Physical Endurance and Medical Standards Test - There will be a separate panel of experts to check your physical and medical standards and if your all tests found positive and requirement of the standards then you will be selected for the post of IPS and if you could not pass this test then you will be given another post under IAS rank according to your secured marks in exam

Promotions and ranks that you will get after completing a fix duration of your service : When you will join then you will be a fresher as junior scale officer in this department and your promotion depends on your hard work and activities that you will perform while being in job and ranks are following that you may get after becoming IPS Officer in India :

    >> Junior Time Scale - Assistant Commissioner of Police
    >> Senior Time Scale - Deputy Commissioner of Police/ Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police
    >> Junior Administrative Grade - Senior Superintendent of Police/ DCP/ ADCP
    >> Selection Grade - Senior Deputy Commissioner of Police if get post in selection grade
    >> Super Time Scale - Additional Commissioner of Police
    >> Super Time Scale - Senior Administrative Grade - Joint Commissioner of Police
    >> Above Super Time Scale - Special Commissioner of Police
    >> Above Super Time Scale - Apex - Commissioner of Police ( State)

There is no particular rule that you will be posted only under a state that you will prefer because this is a national service and you can be posted to serve anywhere in India that is why you should be ready for that and do not think that you will serve only your hometown state and sometimes you can be posted to work under Intelligence Agencies of India and Defense Services - IB, CBI, RAW, CID, ITBP, BSF, CPF, CISF, CRPF etc. so remember that you are going to be a huge responsibility soon

Preparation of Examination : You are a engineering student so first you should complete your bachelor's program because if you will get involved in preparation right now then you will be unable to focus more on study due to double burden so you should complete this then think that you have to become IPS at any cost that is why find out a very good coaching institute in India to be prepared for this examination and some of the good coaching institutes are listed below that you may join to get sure selection

Vajiram and Ravi IAS Study Circle
    Chanakya IAS Study Center
Sachdeva New PT college for Civil Service Exam
    Rao's IAS Academy

When you will join then remember that you have nothing to do except preparation of this exam and do not get involved in any diploma or master degree program and just care only for preparation

Coaching Institute will make you perfect for about 7 hours everyday including practice so try to give same or more time for self preparation and revision whatever was taught in coaching institute

Revision and practice will be everything and you need to follow only the instructions of coaching institute and keep your preparation continue by using some good books and study materials provided by the institute

Keep official syllabus with you in each book and read content according to the requirement and that will give you point preparation for each topic and you will see everything studied while appearing for exam

When you will complete basics and learning then you should practice for all papers in coaching institute conducted in preliminary exam - GS and CSAT and try to give at least one practice test everyday for both papers so that will make you sure for everything and when you will appear for exam then you will find out everything known by you before so practice will give you proficiency and time saving skills in examination

Work more over topics that are tough for you and share your thoughts and knowledge with other colleagues so they could give you more about the exam and that will help in preparation. Appear for exam confidently and try to save time and attempt at least 80% questions in each paper and if there is something that is unable to be solved by you then do not make expected answers otherwise your marks will be deducted and you will be failed so remember this thing and prepare as you have to secure 100% marks in prelims

You will get enough time to prepare for Main exam of about 5 months and that is enough for all 7 conventional papers but your high score will give you job so try to get in depth knowledge of each subject that will be asked in exam and secure good marks in examination

More details about examination are mentioned in attached notice so please download and also visit at www.upsc.gov.in for latest information

    All the best
