Educational Qualification : Graduate in any discipline from any recognised university in India.
Attempts : 4 attempts for general
7 attempts for OBC
No restriction for SC/ST
If you want to become an IAS officer then you need to apply for the civil services examination for the same because after applying for the civil services exam a candidate needs to go through the written examination which is a very big procedure in this exam because the examination pattern include lots of papers so a candidate should be a good in general studies and the subjects that he or she like to choose as an optional subjects.
Well according to the notification the examination pattern is as follows-
-CSAT stands for the civil services aptitude test.
It includes the two papers in the first step both the papers will include the general studies of 200 marks of each.
So the total marks for the same will be 400.
-MAINS examination.
Into this a candidate should need to select the optional subjects according to his qualification or interest.
So he is not bound to go for that which he not likes to apply.
There will be total 9 papers in the Mains exam.
Total marks for the same will be 2000.
After clearing the mains candidates will be asked for the interview.

Before you apply for the examination I would like to tell the what the examination is all about .What are the eligibilty criteria and pattern of examination.See because without knowing about anyone completely you cannot win over it.You need to prepare well if you like to crack the examination instead wasting your chances and then gaining knowledge.So first why civil servcie examiantion are conducted?.
See the civil service examination is conducted by UPSC for selection of those candidates who are willing and capabilty to serve in government prestigious offices for the country.THrough this examination commission select candidates for services like IAS(Indian Administrative Servcies),IPS(Indian POlice Services),IFS(Indian Foreign Servcies),IRS(Indian Revenue Servcies).Besides these many vacancies in government servcie are selected through it.

for applying for Civil Services Examination after clearing which you will get IAS(Indian Administrative Services) you have to go to www.upsc.gov.in and fill the online application form when application forms are released.The date of release of application forms will be advertised by UPSC through news papers and employment News .
This examination is conducted in 2 parts :-
first part is prelims which consists of general studies.The subjects included in general studies are mentioned on www.upsc.gov.in.
