First of all you have to face UPSC Prelims exam in which objective type questions will be asked.
After that you have to go through UPSC mains exam in which you have to face exam for some compulsory subjects and optional subjects.
ENGLISH AND INDIAN LANGUAGES, ESSAY, GENERAL STUDIES are the compulsory subjects.

EXAM PATTERN FOR CIVIL SERVICE EXAM:-
The IAS exam consists of 3 phases.
1)Preliminary exam
2)Main exam
3)Interview
PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION:-
Preliminary exam is divided in to 2 papers.
Each paper duration is 120 minutes.
MAIN EXAM:-
Main exam is divided in to 9 papers.
Each paper duration is 180 minutes.
INTERVIEW:-
Final Phase is Interview phase.
Candidates who have qualified in both the two above phases can apply for Interview.
SYLLABUS:-
PRELIMINARY EXAM CONSISTS OF 2 PAPERS.
Paper one consists of Geography, Indian history and national movements, current events, general science, Economics, Indian polity and government etc.
