Civil service is the only exams which give students from any stream any oppoartunity to appear for it if they have geneuine interest for serving in the government services.
You will be eligible for civil service examination if you have crossedthe minimum age limit criteria ie 21 years of age as well as minimum deusational qualification that is bachelor in any degree from a recognised university.
So select that streams in your plus two which you have geneuine interest. If it is scinece then you must take it.Science students have also more option than a arts studnets.BUt it all depends upon yiour choice.Because you are the one who is going to study. You have to learn all the formulas and theories. So instead of thinking about future you more concentrate on present.

See friend,
You do not have to worry much in this regard.
As there is no stream specifications given in UPSC eligibility norms so you can take any stream.
All candidates who complete their graduation can appear for the exam irrespective of their stream they have taken during their graduation.
Choosing stream depends on all your interest.
So choose only that stream in which you are interested.
You can feel free to choose any subjects either science, commerce or arts etc.
The stream in which you feel you are strong you can choose that one.
You can also change your stream if you want after your 10+2.
The eligibility criteria required for civil services examination is:-
you must have completed your graduation from a recognised university.
Being in the final year also you are eligible for the exam.
As I told you above that stream does not matter. any stream candidate can appear for the exam.
Also just being passed in your graduation exam will do for the exam.
AGE LIMIT CATEGORY WISE:-
GENERAL- 21 TO 30 YRS

Hi, first off all let me tell you if your goal in future is civil services, then you can choose any stream in class 11th.There is no such criteria for any stream specification for Civil Services. And same applies to your graduation. You can opt any stream for graduation as well to apply for Civil services. But my sincere advice to you is that you should choose that stream in which you think you are more comfortable and you find that stream easier than other streams,e.g. if you are good in science then you should go for science stream,if you are good in arts you should go for arts stream, etc.
In the end you will find yourself more comfortable with stream which you find more easy to study and understand and it will definitely help in boosting your performance in Civil Services.
Thank you and all the best![]()
Hi
this is a very nice thing that you are thinking about civil services at this early age. while talking about something that you will take in upsc exam, chose the stream with you are interested in. if you want to carry on with history civics or economy can go on for arts. because keeping that in mind pursue your higher studies in this field only so that it can be helpful in the preparation of the main IAS examination.

Candidates must be under 21-30 years , 3 years of age relaxation for BC candidates and 5 years of age relaxation for SC/ST candidates.
