Dear as for as my views are concerned that when i talk about the history subject so that i choose following books to prepare for my exams and also suggest these books to others for this section :

    1. Indian History and Struggle for Independence - Bipin Chandra
    2. Indian Culture and Ancient History by Romila Thapar
    3. NCERT +2 Level Books for History, medieval and Modern India
    4. Gopal Krishna - Special Peoples of Modern Indian History
    5. A C Banarjee for History

Dear if you are preparing for this subject from Bipin Chandra's book then you are good and you should keep your study continue on the same way and you should purchase these other mentioned books for your preparation and to get good command over this subject because this subject has the high number of questions in the preliminary and mains exam so that you should prepare hard for this exam and if you are in any coaching institute and getting the help of these books then you are on the way of your success and to become an IAS officer in India

    All the best

    Hello there,

    >> Modern India by Bipin Chandra is an excellent book. You must definitely go through it.
    >> Having a personal experience through it, I can assure you of easy comprehension and amazing collection of knowledge.
    >> It is certainly to be followed for the Mains too.
    >> I won't like to recommend you any other book for Modern History as this is too good in itself. Just make sure you go through it more than once.
    >> You may also look for D.N.Jha's Ancient History and Satish Mathur's Medieval History.

    All The Best.
