Reading novels are good.It will enhance your understanding capability.But in UPSC civil service examination consists English comprehension and precise writing of tenth level.So my advice is better you develop a habit of reading newspaper.It will help you in long run.You know Civil service examination gives lots of importance to General Studies.So reading newspaper will not only help you in improving your General Knowledge as well as keep you updated about current affairs.
